BAND CHARTED AND DIDN’T NOTICE FOR NEARLY 3 YEARS – ALBUM REACHED 85 ON THE TOP 100

UK Metal act Kaine discovered this week that the band’s album After Extinction, released on September 19, 2022, made the Official Album Downloads Chart (29/9/22), reaching 85 on the top 100 and finishing ahead of acts such as Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, Fleetwood Mac, Madonna, and The Eagles that week. The band was unaware of this achievement for two and a half years until it was highlighted to them just this week after their return to rehearsals announcement. You can view the official chart position here.

Guitarist and vocalist Rage said of the news: “I had no reason to check the charts, why would I? We would have never expected to have charted, even for a week, so to find out three years on is both funny and a nice surprise. I am still a bit shocked by it all, to be honest.”

After Extinction was the band’s “Covid-era” album, written, rehearsed, and recorded across multiple studios between several lockdowns and restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic. The album was self-produced and released on the band’s label on a limited budget, supported by the band’s Patreon and Bandcamp backers.

Rage continued: “It goes to show you can be a self-financed and self-releasing band and still make a little mark on the music landscape these days. To say we have had a top 100 album recognised by the official charts is an incredible achievement for our band, especially given we have had no major festival or tour support appearances to promote it. It only received two reviews after release too and no magazine coverage whatsoever! I will credit the NWOTHM Full Albums channel on YouTube for helping the record reach more people by uploading it there, the support from that channel helped us with this release.”

Since the band released the album in 2022, it has had over 238k streams across all platforms and is the band’s most successful album to date. Two singles were released to promote the album, Green to Grey and A Slave to the Grind, the latter recently reaching over 61k streams across all platforms. A limited number of CDs were also released.

Lead guitarist Toby commented that it: “Only took us two and a half years to realise but we made the top 100!  I mean it took us that long because why would we check? Now we’re one step closer to the superstardom we’ve been destined for the whole time. HUZZAH!  Thanks to everyone who downloaded After Extinction for making this happen.” The band’s drummer Liam was also surprised by the news, adding:  “Well that was unexpected! Feels weird to have an album that has charted, I guess all I can say is thank you to those who downloaded the album when it was released. Maybe if the next one charts we won’t take 2 and a half years to notice it!”

Kaine is a British Heavy Metal band originally formed in 2009, influenced by the likes of Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and the early US Thrash movement in bands such as Metallica, Megadeth, and Anthrax. Kaine has two shows lined up for 2025 which can be found here.
