As previously announced, we’d be doing a “NWOTHM” set for Cozfest this year, and we’ll be doing songs from our debut album Falling Through Freedom (2011) right through to our most recent album, After Extinction (no.85 Official Charts). We haven’t played a number of these for a while, and we’ve enjoyed revisiting these songs for the set, and if you have seen/followed us as a band over the past 16 years, there will be something for you. So far, muscle memory has carried us through a number of these tracks, but we’ll definitely but up to speed come the show. Of course, the NWOTHM movement in general, while still growing, is starting to show its age, and bands like ours are starting to close in on being two decades old. Most people still find it hard to believe we have been going that long, and still view us as young and hopeful upstarts in the Metal scene, rather than veterans of the UK’s underground Metal scene, years into existence and still evading success!
The organisers have been kind enough to offer us an extended set, which has been a huge help, even more so given we have now learned a set of Black Sabbath songs to accompany the Kaine 16-year set! We’re not a band that usually plays covers, but given that we owe the entirety of our music existence to Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne, we feel it’s important to pay respect and tribute to the band that started it all. Without Black Sabbath, we would simply be nothing. It’s been fun breaking down our favourite early Sabbath tunes and learning them for this set, and we have made great progress with it in a short amount of time. It’s good to challenge ourselves as a band, and we’re hoping to do these songs justice come August 23rd.
We’re all Black Sabbath fans, so we really want to be able to do this. As I said when Ozzy had passed, one of my dreams was to play a gig supporting Black Sabbath, and while that dream will never come to fruition now, just being able to pay tribute to Ozzy and the original Black Sabbath in this way it’s a huge honour for me and the guys.
